In Fremont, California, Safe Alternatives to Violent Environments prevents domestic and intimate partner violence and walks survivors and their children toward safety, healing, and stability through free confidential trauma‑informed care. They operate an emergency Safe House, a 24/7 crisis line, individual and group counseling, housing assistance, financial literacy education, case management, and prevention programs in local schools. In 2024 they served 1,465 survivors, answered 2,962 crisis calls, sheltered 89 women and children and helped 80 families secure housing while in-kind essentials like toiletries and clothing brought immediate comfort and dignity to neighbors starting over.
